Invest In Yourself

June 26th, 2008 fraservafull No comments

As a business coach, much of what I do focuses on helping others learn to bring more joy to their work life.  During this process, we identify what works, what doesn’t, what is missing, and what is next.

Together, my client and I seek to gain clarity of their day-to-day functions – what are they doing that they either don’t like or are not good at doing.  Then, we find the connection (that is usually there) between not liking something and not doing it well.

People want to know they are living with a purpose.  They want to know they are doing the kind of work they were put on earth to do and that they are making a positive difference.

I am often asked by people how to begin living their best life.  It begins by gaining a deep understanding of who you are.

Through the coaching process, we discover what’s important to you now, including any deal breakers in your life.  We look at what your doing and decide on intentional actions and strategies to improve your situation.

If you find yourself coasting or settling for a mediocre existence, together we determine what action is necessary to move you out of that place.

Sometimes it means that you need a new job, or new career.  Sometimes it simply means powerfully showing up, no matter where you are.  Often it involves a mind shift.

Living with the intent to make a positive difference creates the opportunity for personal happiness.  It also causes good things to happen in the world around you.

There is no down side.

I believe we must take personal responsibility for our own happiness.  We must also take responsibility for making a difference.

This doesn’t happen accidentally.  It requires change, self-awareness, and the will to do the work.

And everyone’s happiness is worth that.

Chasing The Madness Away

June 24th, 2008 fraservafull No comments

Is your mind often so cluttered that you can’t think straight?

With overwhelming schedules causing them to live in constant chaos, I’m often addressing this issue with my clients.

Here are some tips we’ve come up with to help regain your center and chase away the madness:

  1. Get clear on what you want and create an action plan.  Disallow anything in your day that does not lead to your desired end.  Eliminate watching television, doing busy work, and anything else that stops you from making progress towards your goal.
  2. Understand that timing is always perfect.  Be patient with where you are.  Don’t let this moment be spent dreaming of the future or reminiscing about the past.
  3. Don’t vacillate over what is not getting done.  All you can do is honestly evaluate the way you are spending your time by re-prioritizing each day.
  4. Once a week, write down the progress you’ve made toward reaching your dream.  This helps to keep the image of your dream alive and catches the missteps you might be making.
  5. Don’t worry about being overwhelmed.  You are playing with the cards you are dealt, and your life is based on fluid change.  Know that the feeling of having too much to do will pass and be appreciative that you have a productive life rather than worried that you won’t get it all done.
  6. Delegate.  Did you hear me?  Delegate.  Delegate and/or outsource every feasible thing that you can.  Hire talented people to do what needs doing and let go of the thought that they won’t do it like you would.
  7. Have fun.  No matter what you’re doing, you must have fun.  Be committed to it.
  8. Surround yourself with do-ers. Don’t allow slackers to infiltrate your life.  Be intentional about who you hang out with.
  9. Pray.  Worry is faithlessness.  The two can not co-exist.
  10. Believe you have endless resources inside, and outside, of you.  Don’t allow hopelessness into your thinking.

When your life is in disarray, take a deep breath.  Then take the energy you’ve put  into worrying and put  it into making a positive impact on your life and others around you.

Learn Big

June 20th, 2008 fraservafull No comments

A colleague and I are putting together a mastermind group, of sorts.  What started as a sprout of an idea is turning into a more developed, feasible one.

The purpose of forming such a group is that we both know we’re better together than apart.

There is a much greater force at work when we use our collective experience, intelligence, creativity, and positive energy to create something that didn’t exist before.  We know that we can benefit by bringing together people from diverse backgrounds in order to round out our perspectives on our business.

This new endeavor is very exciting for me because, more than simply the opportunity to learn from others, I feel as though we’re following the path intended for us as humans.

We are meant to celebrate the differences in one another, and to gain valuable knowledge through our relationships.  We already do that with family and friends, and sometimes even at work.

The group we have created is different in that we are being intentional about who comes together.  We expect this experience to challenge the way we have thought about and conducted our business.

We know we will emerge somehow changed.

This idea is certainly not new.

Mastermind groups have been around, worldwide, for years.  Many of my heroes have benefited from participating in collaborative relationships.  Often, they credit their success to the exposure of other great minds.

Simply, we don’t have to be an expert in all areas when we align ourselves with others who are.

Take a moment to consider who you might know that has the power to change your mind.

Identify these people and align yourself with them.  Seek them out with the intention of learning something big.
